Bike Maintenance Volunteer (Caithness)

Opportunity image

Rural Connections is a project run by Cycling UK and funded by the Scottish Department of Transport. The aim of the project is to promote walking, wheeling and cycling within our community to replace some local journeys we make by motor vehicle. We support individuals, organisations and businesses by providing free training, bike loans, led rides and led walks to make these changes.

As a bike maintenance volunteer, you maybe asked to engage with the Caithness community to provide advice and demonstrate various aspects of bike maintenance, eg fixing a puncture, putting a chain back on and so on.

You may assist with our fleet of bikes; these are loaned out to individuals, community groups and businesses. These bikes need to be safe and in good running order, so they need to be cleaned and serviced before each loan.

You will never be expected to do anything out with your skillset or comfort zone and you will always have the support of a qualified bike mechanic. You will not be expected to adjust brakes, gears or carry out any other major adjustments.

Volunteers are needed on an occasional basis, be that a few hours a week or month.

Travel expenses and other essential out of pocket expenses will be refunded if agreed in advance, in line with Cycling UK's Volunteer Expenses policy.
